Aromatherapy has been around for thousands of years. It has been recorded that ancient Egyptians used this homeopathic practice for many purposes. They used sweet smelling oils during massage sessions for upper class individuals. They used them in the medical treatments. Cosmetics used botanical oils. They were even used in the practice of embalming dead bodies. Even Hippocrates talked of the use of aromatic oils. He suggested a massage with these oils was helpful not only mentally, but also physically. By the tenth century, Arabians began to distill aromatic oils, which made them far more efficient. The oils lost popularity for some time, but in the early 1900s, scientists in France and England tried to reintroduce them to modern medical practice. While they never caught on within the medical practices of the western world, many people are finally realizing the benefits. Today, many different aromatherapy oils have been shown to have lots of benefits in clinical trials.

Aromatherapy is one of the most popular forms of alternative medicine in the world today. Part of the reason it seems to be catching on at such a rapid rate is that it can help with so many horrible problems. In the world of medicine, there are a number of different applications. Women use it to ease labor pains on a regular basis. It is often used by seriously ill patients, like those dealing with cancer to help ease the problems associated with the side effects of traditional treatments. It has even been used to help rehabilitate people with heart problems. You don’t have to be sick to benefit from aromatherapy, though. It can simply help you to focus your mind. It can improve your memory, improve your mood, it can even invigorate you after a long night. One great way to change your aromatherapy practices is to make your own infused oils. This means you can create your own combination of scents based on the plant essences that work best for you.

(ARA) – Sharon Cole was part of a frazzled mothers-only phenomenon that has gradually evolved Soccer Moms into Yoga Mamas. Her frantic zap of mini-van motherhood has gradually changed to a calm Zen that embraces all-natural products and organic foods, matching an emerging lifestyle that focuses on a “whole life.”

Yoga Mamas like Cole, middle-to-upper class mothers age 25 to 40, are more interested in attending yoga class and focusing on their natural inner spirit than obsessing about soccer schedules and stressing out their families. According to Mindy Seiffert, Aura Cacia aromatherapy specialist, 100 percent pure aromatherapy products found at www.auracacia.com are essential to the Yoga Mama’s all-natural lifestyle.

“I recommend Aura Cacia’s Foam Bath for Kids because it has no synthetic colors, fragrances or preservatives, and it’s paraben free,” said Seiffert. “It’s formulated to be gentle. I use it on my twin toddlers every time they ask for a bubble bath.”

Brands like Aura Cacia, a leading 100 percent pure aromatherapy product line, have offered kid products to mirror the buying standards of their parents. Aura Cacia’s Foam Bath for Kids, along with a full line of adult aromatherapy products, are offered from a company that, according to Seiffert, is environmentally conscious and savors an all-natural approach. Two factors that appeal to Yoga Mamas.

Choosy Mothers Choose Organic

Yoga Mamas are grocery store shoppers too. Peanut butter and jelly is being replaced by whole foods and organic ingredients that the entire family has committed to. Healthy, interesting foods offered by Simply Organic have always been popular with niche buyers, but according to Brett Karminski, Simply Organic food specialist, the all-organic food line is experiencing significant growth from the Yoga Mama shopper. Favorites like Sweet Basil Pesto Pasta Sauce, French Onion Dip, and Simply Organic Sloppy Joe seasoning mix can be found at www.frontiercoop.com.

“Our product lines offer spices and foods that match the Yoga Mamas’ purity demands,” said Karminski.

Simply Organic, an all-organic brand from Frontier Natural Products Co-op, offers certified organic spices, seasonings and baking flavors while supporting organic agriculture around the globe. Simply Organic donates one percent of all sales to organic farming causes around the globe.

Aura Cacia aromatherapy products can be found at Whole Foods, Wild Oats and other natural product retailers nationwide and at www.auracacia.com. Simply Organic spices and foods can be found at Whole Foods, Wild Oats and other natural product retailers nationwide and at www.frontiercoop.com.

Here is an essential oil recipe rips for this time of year – use it when you feel the onset of a cold or use it for a cough.

  • Eucalyptus – 8 drops
  • Hyssop – 4 drops
  • Lemon – 6 drops
  • Tea Tree – 4 drops
  • Place in a bowl of steaming water so essential oils can be released in the air – or place in a warm bath.

Note – if you have a persistent cough or think your cough is serious, see a doctor.

The Aromatherapy for Health blog just posted an essential oil blend to help calm children at bedtime.  This aromatherapy recipe is meant for diffusion, which is a method of releasing scents into the air.

Since it is a recipe for children, I want to point out that it is a good idea to use caution and make sure the kids don’t intake any of the oils – especially since many children are quite allergic to chamomile.
